An Old Cub Scout's Point of View
My son recently joined the Cub Scouts. Having been a scout in my youth, I was excited that my boy wanted to be one, also. We went to our first meeting anxiously anticipating all the fun things we would be doing together. I've enjoyed each and every thing we've done, even camping out in forty degree weather in a small, two-man tent. I highly recommend Scouting to all boys and Dads who are looking for something to do together.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Scouting, there are several achievements that must be done in order to receive a badge, pin or other reward for completing the achievements. To qualify for one of his achievements, my boy is taking a series of classes called, "God and Me". As the title implies, it is a study about God and how He loves us. The teacher is fabulous; I'm amazed at how this guy is keeping 15 young boys' interest in a subject that challenges even the brightest minds. My eight year old son is really interested in what the teacher has to say. In fact, my son actually sat on the couch at home after one of the sessions reading the Bible!
Tonight's session is going through the first chapter of Genesis. As old as I am, I'm always amazed when I read, or hear, the creation story. Just as three words, "We, the people" represent the beginning of our country, so the three words, "In the beginning" represent the start of God's plan for the redemption of man.
The thought of a God powerful enough to speak things into existence is truly awe-inspiring, not to mention a God Who could see thousands of years into the future and make a plan for my salvation. How wonderful our Lord is! How mighty and majestic is He, and how worthy of praise and adoration.
As you go about your week, be sure to take a few moments to look around at God's handiwork. Imagine all of it as it was spoken into existence. See if you don't feel a little amazement yourself.
