Shine On Trio
What is the history of your ministry? Where did you begin? Why did you choose this path of ministry?
The Shine On Trio consists of Roger and Cathy Troutman and Brenda Quick. Compared to a lot of groups in Southern Gospel Music, the Shine On Trio has a relativly short history. We began singing together in our home church, the Irmo Church of God in Irmo, SC in 2006. Each one of us has always had a desire to sing for the Lord but never really imagined how He would use us to win souls for His kingdom. Before moving to South Carolina, Roger had a solo ministry in Indiana but had always wanted to be a part of a group, trio or quartet. After hearing Cathy and Brenda sing together he asked if they would like to join with him and form a trio. After a lot of begging, they agreed and as they say, the rest is history, in more ways than one. Not only did they start singing together in church but a few months later Roger and Cathy got married. No begging involved!!
Who are some of your major musical influences? Why do they affect you the way they do?
We really work at our harmony and seem to maintain that “family” sound that sisters have and we enjoy a unique blend that lends a little to the “country side” of southern gospel and that suits us fine. We really like the Whisnants, Three Bridges, The Hoppers, the Happy Goodmans, the Hinsons and we could go on. We are so thankful that southern gospel music is “coming on” so strong today and that there are those huge “Homecoming” type celebrations that bring awareness to so many that would otherwise not be reached.
Who has been your biggest spiritual influence?
Our love of Jesus is the foundation on which we stand. Matthew 5:16 says, “let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify the Father in heaven”.
How many dates to you do per year? What kind of venues do you sing at?
We sing at churchs, concerts, fairs, inside or outside anywhere the door is opened for us to minister we will be there! We are currently doing about 30 dates per year but hope for that number to grow!
Are you involved in other areas of ministry besides music?
We have just established our new 501(c)((3) not for profit corporation, SHINE ON MUSIC MINISTRIES. The Shine On trio will continue to be the music ministry of this non profit but it is our prayer that we will have the opportunity to do so much more. There are a lot of people in need today and the mission of the SHINE ON MUSIC MINISTRIES is simply this:
Matthew 5:16 says to “let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify the Father which is in heaven”. The inspiration of what this scripture calls us to do is the platform from which the Shine On Music Ministries will build. As we lift up our Christian brothers and sisters we will earnestly seek the lost with the hope that souls may be won for the Kingdom of heaven. Whether it is sharing the good news about Jesus in song and testimony, or sowing seeds of love, hope, joy, kindness and generosity, it is our prayer that always, always His light will shine through in everything we do.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33
We have made a commitment to help all we can and there is one place that is very dear to our hearts. The South Carolina Church of God Childrens home in Mauldin, SC has been providing more than just room and board for children in need of a home. They share so much love and care for them as if they were their own. With over 90% of there operating budget coming from donations, we have pledged a 25% share of every dollar donated to the SHINE ON MUSIC MINISTRIES to help support their effort. It is our prayer that we may bless them abundantly.
Where do you see your ministry in the next 10 years?
We have no idea where God will send us but we are always open to His call. We were talking with Rod and Kelly Burton at the Branson Gospel Music Convention last year about how local and regional artist are blessed to have a closer one on one relationship with those in attendance at the concerts. We have a special opportunity to reach the lost and that is what we try to do each time we are ministering through music and testimony.
Talk a little bit about your current project and/or single.
We are so excited about our recent signing with Homeland Entertainment in Nashville, Tn. We are looking forward to working with Scott Godsey and the entire staff on our new project this summer on the HeartWarming lable. We are now in the process of selecting some new material to go along with several original songs that Roger and Cathy have written.
We are also excited about working with our new media promotion company, SSE Group. Our new web site and a whole lot of other promotional products will soon be up and running and we want to thank Chris and Amy and Scott and everyone else there for what they are about to do!!
