I read an article this past week about secular concert attendance, which, like everything else in this current economy, is down. Well-known secular acts are canceling concert dates and even coming off the road entirely due to declining numbers. This is not a surprise during a time of recession. Now, I know the folks in the think tanks have declared the recession to be over as of sometime in June, but that news has not trickled down to my area, which is still seeing large unemployment numbers and business closings.
When times become hard, people look for a message of hope. I believe this is a time for Gospel music of all genres to get busy. Pastors, start bringing groups into your churches and then PROMOTE THE CONCERT. Promoters, find less expensive ways to have concerts and schedule more. Artists, tighten your belts as much as you can so churches and promoters can afford to have you.
How did Donald Trump reach the stature he has today? He is a master at seeing an opportunity and then capitalizing on it. Say what you will about the man, he’s very intelligent and he knows how to promote. This economy, while difficult on all of us, can be a great opportunity for us to build on so we can all be stronger.
What do you think? I’d like to know!
